Start by requesting an account setup on DA servers:

https://www.hostpc.com/reorder.html

While we're processing your request, review the information at http://www.site-helper.com - there's important information on paths, etc. Your welcome mail will have information on nameservers, etc. If all the information in your conversion form is correct/complete, you'll get setup within 4-6 hours.

If you do NOT have your billing receipt numbers, please indicate a date when you signed up... and how you paid, in the comments field. We'll research that manually.

This form is sent via the secure server, all information is private.

Thanks

Joe

Good question! DA is great. The user features surpass the features offered by Ensim. Here are a few that I found clients would be interested in....

I see a lot of tickets with people needing help setting Outlook Express up - Well, you can log into the DA control panel and download the settings for each user. I found that a very helpful tool for the user.

I love the filter option built into DA. Here are some ways to filter mail at the server...
Block a specific e-mail address:
Block mail from an entire domain:
Block all e-mail containing the word:
Block all e-mail larger than:
Enable adult filter: (blocks out common adult phrases, words, and addresses)
Now you has a user have several ways to filter all that junk, porno crap at the server

You want to use frontpage extensions? We do have the fastest tech support in the nation....however you don't have to rely on us...the user has full control over that

DNS? Yep, you guessed it...you have full control over DNS

You still have control over your databases as well..so you won't need us for that either

There are a lot more...I could be here all night telling you about what you can do now....however....I thought these were pretty nice to start with...

All you need to do is fill out this form and we will set you up a new account on the new faster servers with this new control panel

Hi,

I registered at https://www.hostpc.com/reorder.html 10/17/2003.
But there has been no change at all. What is up? Today I tried it
again.

And is there anything I should do after the registration?

Thanks.

I can't see any change after dropping email. Is there any tutorial for this change?

Hello bcyan

you need to move your data to the new server, making email addresses again and change your DNS
if you dont have your data you can put in a helpdesk ticket to have a backup restored to the new server

the all-set was resent last night explaining how to do that...also this site might be of some assistance

I'm not so pleased with this new DA control panel as everyone else seems to be. I've just spent 2 1/2 days trying to figure out the custom name server feature and gotten no where. When I go to DA's forum for support they don't answer. The control panel won't work for clients who use AOL. And usernames can only be 10 characters long which I think is really really stupid. I realize it's new and the kinks haven't been worked out yet, but still. I can't spend all this time on something that so far has netted a profit of $120/year. Rant, rant, rant. Thanks for listening.

Now that the nameserver issue is worked out, DirectAdmin is starting to grow on me. It's 10x easier than Ensim was for creating new host packages, setting up new user accounts, creating email accounts and forwards. And that's only the beginning -- I haven't done much with it yet but what I've seen so far looks great. Better than Plesk too.

Is https://www.hostpc.com/reorder.html working? I submitted my request a few days ago, and was under the impression that I would receive some sort of e-mail notice within 6-8 hours?

If there is a back up that's fine, I realize that there must be a lot of requests. Just wanted to know if my request was heard.

Domains: egovsites.com and phaithful.com

Thanks

Hi EW - I didn't get a request for those two - can you please either resubmit, or open a helpdesk ticket.

Thanks

Joe

Resubmitted through the link for egovsites.com

I'm going to hold off on phaithful.com until I can get all my users geared up to get their contact lists off their web e-mail accounts.

Thanks

If your site consists of only images and html or php documents, then that should be all that is necessary. If, however, on the other hand, you have databases, then, of course, you would have to move those over as well.

1. Use PHPMyadmin to dump copies of your database data.
2. download the rest of your files using an ftp client.
3. connect to the DA server.
4. restore files
5. restore database dump using PHPMyadmin on DA server.

Upload the .sql dumpfile to your webspace - open a helpdesk ticket with the database name, database username and database password - we'll import it for you.

The database errors are most probably due to the fact that the database names (and usernames/passwords) are different on DA from the way they were on ENSIM. You will need to change any configuration files that contain these hard-coded database and user names.

here's a question:

I run a discussion board that uses a database (vbulletin, as it happens, but it could be any of them).

is there any way to switch to da without taking the board down? as I understand it, the idea of creating a window of propagation with your stuff on two servers is that requests for your domain that from dns servers that havent gotten the update will still point to your information.

but that would seem to create two databases with conflicting info (e.g. thread #100 is titled one thing in the ensim database but another in the DA database).

maybe i'm misunderstanding this whole move....

Jo I'd love to move as soon as possible as my cgi scripts are no longer working. However:
a) the link to reorder wasn't working last night or this morning so I can't do that
B) I haven't been able to do a zipped backup: every time I try, either the Backup page comes up as not found, or wheh it does it starts to download at about 6 bytes a sconds or it goes really fast then hangs. I can of course ftp backup but that takes a lot longer obviously.
