Intended primarily as a resource for woodworkers, the Wood Handbook (http://www.wood-handbook.com) is guaranteed to cure insomnia for those who aren't.

From the book:

Since it was first issued in 1935 the Wood Handbook, developed by scientists at the USDA Forest Products Laboratory in Madison, Wisconsin has served as the preeminent source of information on wood and wood products. This 1999 edition of the Wood Handbook reflects a complete revision of the last edition published in 1987, and presents many new chapters on new products and processes.

Subjects covered in this 428-page handbook include

1. basic wood and wood product characteristics and properties,
2. various wood manufacturing processes,
3. processes to enhance the performance of wood products,
4. structural design information, and
5. specifications and rules for the proper use of wood products.

The Wood Handbook contains nearly 200 figures and over 100 tables.

cool info! thanks for sharing. this ought to come in handy.

just as an FYI: the site only partly works with Mozilla Firebird 0.6.1 browser, as well as Netscape 6.2.3, and only a little better in Opera 6.0.4....MSIE 6 however doesn't seem to have any problems with it.

Thanks for the feedback re: browsers.

Hmmm... What to do... OK. I've got NS 6.?? I'll try to fix for that first and pray the others work better, too.

Hello thevillageinn

maybe you can tell us what isn't working so Herbster knows where to start fixing

It's grim, Nick, but not impossible to fix.

Netscape handles lists differently than IE, so that was torqued - fixed now for Netscape 6.2.

A z-order/zIndex prob made the content invisible in Netscape 6.2  - fixed now.

Some centering issues, more than a few CSS inconsistencies. The homepage formatting is trashed in Netscape. So much for CSS positioning. I'm going back to tables for the time being.

And then there's the IE box model bug...

I'll be busy for a while. :D

Herbster,
I'm sorry to have brought up so much work. I just wanted you to know that, last night while I was browsing the forum with a different browser, I couldn't get much of anything to show. I didn't want that to be the reason people left your site, I know that not EVERYONE uses MSIE, but almost.

I will go surf the site again, and if I still have issues I'll post some screenshots for you.

Nick,
Thanks for the suggestion. It would have been helpful of me to do that in the first place. I was in a hurry last night.

Update:
Here's what I see. Again, I'm sorry to bring all this up

Wow, why can't they all just play nice together? :(

Herbster,
I'm sorry to have brought up so much work. Not at all. I appreciate the feedback. I got lucky on my last project, so I got lazy on this one. I should have at least checked in NS 6.2 as I have that installed.

The problem with the homepage is the box model bug. IE includes borders and margins in width statements. Moz adds borders and margins to the specified width. Hence, no room for things to fit side by side in Moz and they kind of pop under one another. This I can fix.

There may be minor cosmetic things that won't look right in Firebird and Opera, but I should be able to repair the major stuff.

And Joe - yes it would be nice if browsers all played nice, but it's not likely to happen any time soon. Now that Microsoft has nixed free future versions of IE I anticipate the market to become more fragmented and compatibility issues to increase. It makes for major headaches.

P.S. thevillageinn - the screen shots help a LOT! Thank you. I've saved the pics if you don't want to continue hosting them.
