I just came across a very interesting thread in another forum (webhostingtalk.com) that posed this question. I thought it was a very cool question, and I'd like to get everyone's feedback.

If you ran our company for a day, what would you change?

Thanks

That's hard to answer because there isn't much I can think of that I would want to change. You're doing a great job.

Maybe make the logo at the top of the page smaller (less height) so that it takes up less room on the screen. (I use 800x600 so every bit of space is valuable)

I would fix cron.

Ouch :(

Cron isn't something thats available to users via Ensim, so we need to rewrite a user interface for it. Not an easy task, but we're working on it. You do know that we can setup crons FOR you until this is done, right?

hey guys

not a criticism, but a suggestion:

it seems your clients have a variety of levels of technical expertise

I myself fall under the Dumb-ass designer

hence, limited techical expertise

(please dont hack my website people  )

perhaps tuning tutorials for certain levels?

your tutorials are great though and I am learning fast

Well, I haven't counted but I've got 2 to 3 dozen little scripts. Some execute swiftly, some not. If I combine them, they run the risk of timing out. Seems it would be a pain for you to set up that many crons. Plus these are PHP scripts. They would execute ok?

Sure would - just give me a list, like this:

http://www.yourdomain.com/file.php run every 1hr
http://www.yourdomain.com/file.php run every 1hr

http://www.yourdomain.com/file.php run every 1hr

Cool!
As soon as I finish my current project, I'll get you a list.
Thanks Joe! This will save me a lot of time. :D

I know it is stupid....But as a lazy person, a web based website builder is a nice draw for simple accts. There could be an additional fee involved.

Not sure if it is something to look into.

Actually Mike, this is under active consideration. Have you used any that you found particularly nice?

The charges to use and/or the hosting company I was not comfortable with so I never actively used any. I am not sure if it would be cost effective for you. All the templates and such would have to be royalty free of course. Then there are the active flash and such applications.

I will prob move my domain over to you very soon even if you dont have the feature. My hosting is almost up and I might as well take advantage of the great deal you have.

Take a look around..if you see one that interest you..let us know. What do you think the charges should be for this service? Hope to have you on board with us soon. Let us know if we can do anything in the mean time.

This isn't really a technical issue but since you asked...

I'd change the site's design. It could definitely look more professional without too much trouble and the layout of a few things makes it hard to find what you're looking for (well, for me anyway).

I know you have Web Design listed as one of your services but if you want more specifics on what I'd change, let me know.

Service and performance-wise I wouldn't change much. Prices are great during the 2 for 1 deals, packages are good although having telnet or SSH access would be handy - especially for working with the MySQL dbs.

I'm all ears on any site design changes, or if any members are interested in recreating our main site. I'm not happy with it's current looks, but our designer has been busy with other contracts and hasn't gotten us a preview that we really are happy with at the moment.

Feel free to post any suggestions, or e-mail me directly.

As for SSH, it's available at http://www.hostpc.com/extras.html for a $10 setup fee.

Thanks Joe - I thought I remembered hearing SSH was free for resellers but I never saw that listed anywhere so I thought it wasn't available.

(ps - I sent you a PM)

For resellers, yes, it's included in their control panel.

It's right there as one of the 20 or so options available when setting up a site.

If I ran the company for a day what would I change? I'd keep the annual prepay option. Currently I'm doing that on the 'small' reseller plan. I'd like to upgrade to 'medium' during the sale this weekend (and thus still be able to prepay), but I don't have the funds available. So if I wait for another sale to upgrade then I won't be able to prepay anymore I assume. -- a long about way to say that I like paying annually.
