Thanks everyone for making this sale an overwhelming success (and we're only on the second day!!)
Joe
Thank you all for this incredible response - we're adding, on average, about 5-6 accts per hour. You keep joining us, we'll keep adding servers!
By the way, there are no more than 150 accts per server on these new machines for optimum performance.
Joe
I was just asked if there are any prorated refunds if something changes down the road. I guess I should have pointed that out
We'll gladly offer a prorated refund at the rate of $2 per unused month if for any reason your not satisfied with our service.

i have a question... if i have 2 domains...
ie: (abc.com & xyz.com)... can i get them both onto this one back to school special w/ hostpc.com?
or do i have to buy 2 accounts w/ hostpc, and put each domain onto an acct? can i combine?
can you also explain:
""unlimited subdomains (within account limits)"
thanks in advance.
Hello Guest
if you want both domains to point to the same web content we can set up domain abc and alias xyz to it at no charge...but im thinking you want both domains with different content..if so refer here this might suit your needs better
http://www.hostpc.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?t=391
subdomains are created within your main account by simply putting the content under /var/www/html/subdomain.domain.com
that statement just says you have to stay within your web space storage limit of the main account

I already subscribe with you guys. Can i take advantage of this? I got in on the 2 for 1 deal a while back, so I have 700 MB of disk space. I know this one has 250 MB, so that is basically all that I would be loosing, correct? The rest of the stuff stays the same.
Hello
I'm not quite sure I'm following what you want to do? Are you wanting to down size to the special now from your 2 for 1 deal? If you like you can PM me with your domain(s) and your intentions
$25 per month? or $25 for the year?
Heck - for Andrax? $25 a day! :)
Hi 'Drax... have a good one.
Aww heck, can I pay that per hour? ;) LOL
Holy smokes, thats a great deal. I might have someone to send your way.
:)
And you guys thought i was good for nothin. ;)

Hello, Joe - the Back to School deal sounds wonderful! I have several domains which are hosted -ahem- elsewhere. I think I may want to transfer them to you because of what I hear about you on FatWallet, and of course, the wonderful low price. How do I go about TRANSFERRING to you guys to host my several domains? Thanks!
Depends on where they're hosted... normally, you'd need a copy of your webpages on your local computer, then you'd FTP them to our servers.
Feel free to e-mail me with any more specific questions.
Joe
Note, $50 giveaway promo is now OVER
http://www.hostpc.com/win50.gif
In less than 2 weeks of this sale, we've managed to fill 1.5 servers - thats about 250 clients. I'd say response to this sale has been OVERWHELMING!!!
So, my tech support staff thinks they're keeping up VERY well getting new orders placed (less than 2 hrs for most - thank you Nick!) - so I'm going to pose a challenge to see how good our staff REALLY is.
www8 is starting off very nicely, the freshly formatted www4 is back online, ready to go, and www9 is sitting in the wings. Fantastic growth while keeping up with current issues, I think.
My challenge: If we can get 125 NEW signups in the next 5 days, I'll hold a random drawing for TWO NEW clients to each receive a $50 check as a prize. Think about it - 125 signups, 2 winners... Those are GREAT odds!
Can we get 125 new signups?
Thats $100 in prize money if we meet our goal. Some rules:
1) Domains must stay active for 45 days to be considered. With our fantastic service, who'd want to leave anyway? Prize to be paid after the 45 day period is up. Payout will occur on or about September 30, 2003.
2) 100 new signups means 100 newly hosted domains. A single customer can have more than one domain - each domain counts as a signup.
3) Prizes will be paid to the account holder. The account holder is the person who's name appears on the payment form, NOT the name the domain is registered to.
4) Once we get to 125 NEW signups, this $50 give-a-way will end. Your chances will not be more than 1:125. We may do it again if it's successful.
5) Rules subject to change at any time - by being appended to this original post by HostPC Internet Services.
This starts NOW... Ends at 9pm ET on August 17, 2003. Ready? GO!
So, if I host 125 domains, can I just have the $50? :)
Your behind Drax....already a lot of signups!!
I'll count up the entries so far, and post the totals in the morning! I think we're probably gonna make 125 without a problem.
Joe
Half way to the end of the $50 bonus sale ... 74 domains added. Fantastic response - thanks everyone!
Any plans for another 2-for-1 sale (including reseller accounts) soon? Maybe sometime before the end of the year?
Hello Deanimal
check this out

Duh, stupid me. I just saw that other thread. That's what happens when I just pop in with a problem, and then follow the link from the .index page to this thread without taking a look around the forum to see what's going on.
Neat. Now I just need to decide if I should spend the money now or wait till I need the space. I probably should really wait because I have 800-900 MB left on the plan I'm on now. It's just that I'm starting to get freelance development jobs and I have a hunch a few hosting accounts will accompany that. But realistically, that's about 3 months from now and I'm cash tight at the moment.

Does the $25 includes the cost for domain registration? 8 GB of traffic is about how many hits? I'm new to web hosting. Thanks!
$25 does not include domain registration... domain reg is $8.95/yr during this sale, as a separate charge.
Joe
We didn't quite make the 125 new signups, but I'm going to do the 2 $50 prizes anyway. Winners will be drawn from all eligible entries later today.

If i decided to host my website myself, can i do that.
If i decided to host my website myself, can i do that.
not sure what your asking henry...can you do what? host your web site? you would have to have a server somewhere, ex. rackshack, or a static connection with a static ip run into your house with a computer to host it
if that is not what you referring to...let me know and i can assist you more
Hi guys
very happy with the service
can I just speculate though...
during your Back to School Sale...
if I register 3 more hosting packages (including URL registration)
it is still cheaper than the multi-site package (3)
AND I get 9 gig more traffic per month...
is this statement true?
Yes, thats true. The Multisite packages aren't in this sale ... this is a special promo. So, till 9/3 - get it while you can.

......
www8 is starting off very nicely, the freshly formatted www4 is back online, ready to go, and www9 is sitting in the wings.
......
Do the above three servers use the same configuration? Or is www4 older
than www8 and www9 and thus less powerful?
I have one domain hosted by hostpc.com and the service has been great.
I would like to move one more domain to here.
Thanks.
No, www4 is the exact same - the only reason it's numbered differently is I'm filling in the gaps of previously cancelled servers - so we stay consecutive. That was the only missing #.
The software and hardware are the same on 4 as on www6 and www8
okay
I just bought a 2nd back to school package
I noticed I share the same IP address as my first URL
does this mean I actually have one IP address and I have two er... 'partitioned' webspaces?
if I have other DNS registered, can I point them at subdomained url's?
ie
I own:
domainabc.com
domainxyz.net
can I point domain123.org at subdomain.abc.com?
or 12.123.123.123/subdomain
or subdmain.12.123.123.123
just trying to clarify how this is working
why wouldnt I get two seperate IP addresses?
or is this more of a nameserver thing?
Hello DT
like my hosting companies we used what is referred to has shared virtual hosting. there is about 150 web sites on one server. the server has one main ip and then two nameservers that point to the server
no, ensim will not allow domains to be pointed to sub domains within an account. we can alias the second domain to point to the same content (main page) but not a subdomain
IP's are getting limited with the growing of the internet. separate IP's are only given to customers who need SSL
I might point out, HostPC only puts 150 per server - other hosting companies have been known to put >1000 per server. Most put 300-500 per server
thanks for the clarification
I'm very happy with hostpc's service and the incredible amount of support on offer
(and the dirt cheap deals  )

Hi, I was referred by a friend that decided to get a domain hosted here because of the great deal, and I took a look and decided I should take this opportunity too. I just have one question and I'll sign up in an instant.
I have a site that i would like to host somtime very soon, but I havent given much thought to the domain, and I would really rather get the host here first, and sort out the domain later.
Can I sign-up without specifying a domain, and still be able to view my pages on the server through another IP?
Thanks
-Sean
EDIT:

Hey Joe, I'm still waiting to sign-up because I only have $26 dollars in my account and I have an e-Bay listing pending payment. I will find a way to sign-up before the fifth... FOR SURE :)
About the server space we get, will it support active server pages? Since it says MySQL it seems as though it should, I'm just curious.
Thx.
No, sorry, ASP isn't on any of our servers...

hey - quick question.
i'm thinking that i'll grab this deal to pick up another domain, but i already have an account - well, sort of.
my friend and i decided about 8 or 9 months ago to transfer our accounts to hostpc during a 2 accounts for the price of one deal. i believe we signed up using his account info; at this point, can we split up the domains to two different accounts, so that both aren't under his name?
thanks.
If you split up a package that WAS a 2/1 - you lose the benefits of the 2/1 deal - ie, quotas return to normal levels....
Not sure, but I think that answers your question?

> Can I sign-up without specifying a domain, and still be able to view my pages on the server through another IP?
I'd like to know the answer to that myself. I know I'll be needing some accounts in the next couple months but am not ready to choose a domain name, so I'd like to get accounts now to be used later, if that's possible.
On the bandwidth overage issue, how does that work? If my limit is reached, does access to the site just get cut off to visitors, or does the extra bandwidth get allocated with me being billed for it automatically, or would I get notified that I'm getting close to hitting the limit & need to buy more to avoid running out?
> Can I sign-up without specifying a domain, and still be able to view my pages on the server through another IP?
Thats a double edged sword. We DID allow that feature, (http://IP/~domain.com/index.html ) - but Ensim does not monitor bandwidth through that method. We had a couple of people abuse that feature, so we had to close that "hole".
We have a limited time propogation URL that can be used, but when you order a domian, we don't activate it until a FQDN (Fully Qualified Domain Name) is associated with it.
So, yes, you can order now - but you won't get access to the servers until theres a domain associated with the account.

When the bandwidth is met/exceeded, you are NOT cut down, but you will receive a nightly notice that you're over, and by how much. At the end of the calendar month, we invoice for the balance at .75c per GB.

That's what I meant but I wasn't clear. I wouldn't want to upload any content until I have the domain name figured out.
Do I need to do anything special to indicate this, or just not specify a domain name? I'm about to sign up for another account where I already have a name registered, so maybe my question will answer itself during the signup process.
Thanks for your quick replies. It's nice to see a hosting company that can answer questions- some of them don't even respond to their customers. This is also the first one I've seen with a forum, which tells me you must be confident about your service, or you wouldn't provide a place to post public comments.

Hey Joe,
is it .75 cents per GB or $1 like Nick said a few posts up in this topic? Obviously if you look at my account i am 7 gig under the limit, but i was just curious in case i actually put some of my worthless content up...

I'd just like to comment that the ordering interface was really confusing. After I put in my credit card the first time, it sent me to a new site where it seemed like I should put my credit card number in again, which I did.
Then it proceeded to tell me that I have two transactions going, and if I don't want to get charged twice, cancel the transaction. When I clicked cancel transaction, it took me to a "warning time out" page or something along those lines.
I have no idea if I'm going to get charged twice or even if I got charged the first time.
Verdict: the interface was not very user friendly.
Lately, I'm not very pleased with the Client Exec script either. While it does a good job of maintaining customer data, it is definately lacking in some ways, although this is the first complaint I've had.
What was your domain name? If you didn't get a welcome letter yet, it probably hasn't been setup - we're all caught up at this point.
Thanks for your observations.

Hello phaithful
doesn't look like you got setup...billing is saying the account hasn't been paid...we will send you instructions via email
Correction on the bw overage:
it should be 75 cents per GB....joe and i had talked about lowering it...i just forgot...i was getting my info from the extra's page..which needs to be changed...sorry about that
Thats it, I've about had it with this customer management program -
I'm very sorry for the inconvenience - if you'd please open a support ticket, we'll get you setup.

I got the same thing. I went to sign up Wed afternoon & got 2 screens to enter card info. Also got 2 email receipts- one from hostpc & one from mypaysystems. Does that mean I was billed twice?
What I did NOT get was anything that mentioned my domain name theinfrequentflyer.com (which I registered elsewhere months ago) or how/where to upload my files. As of noon Thurs I still haven't seen that.
The end of the checkout took me to a login screen, but I don't know what my ID is. Is it my domain name or something else? I tried the domain name with the password I created, but that didn't work.
I'm not in a big hurry to upload stuff, just want to know I have a valid account set up & am only charged once.
I'm still wondering how to sign up for an account for a domain name to be decided later.
I just responded to your helpdesk ticket,
Your account was only charged once - you get a "thank you" note from HostPC (aka receipt) then a formal credit card receipt from Paysystems for your credit card. You were only billed once.
Your account was ordered: Wednesday, September 03, 2003 3:36 PM
Welcome E-mail with account details was sent: Sent: Wednesday, September 03, 2003 3:59 PM
23 minutes... I can't do it much faster than that :)
As mentioned here: http://www.hostpc.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?t=457 we'll be migrating to a new client manager soon... unfortunately, it'll be too late for this sale, but it'll work MUCH better!

ok.
but in addition to that, what do i need to do in order to separate the two domains listed under his acount info(name, credit card, etc.) into two entirely SEPARATE accounts - i.e. his domainabc.com will then be under his info....my domainxyz.com will be under my info (not his). so that when i need to renew the hosting, i wouldn't have to ask him to pay for both, but so that i can just pay for mine. (er, does that make sense?)

For example, can I have anynamehere@mydomain.com forwarded but also have the ability to prevent forwarding (basically blocking) of those accounts that find its way onto unwanted mailing lists?
Hope that makes sense
Thanks

Regular price is $11.95 per year, BUT right now we will transfer the domain for $8.95 per year and that WILL add another year on to the domain
If you renew next year it will be $11.95 per year, HOWEVER if you buy more years during the transfer they will be $8.95 per year

What is "Master domain" on your order form?
Thanks :?:
hello Metheasker
either or will work (transfer or buy the package)
your domain will have to transfer and propagate before the site will work though..so beware of that
master domain will be the domain your ordering
I think I'm gonna try to get in again on this sale... I hava a site hosted at with somebody else and that subscription will expire in late October.
Can I go ahead and get in on this sale now, then move the site over when the other acct expires? Basically, it'll just be vacant space for about 6 weeks...
Thanks
