Today we've learned that starting with Microsoft Front Page 2003, clients will be forced to use Microsoft Windows based services to get the full effect of 2003 services.
Q. I've heard that there are no FrontPage 2003 Server Extensions. Is that true?
A. Microsoft has continued to make investments in FrontPage 2003 to enhance the overall customer experience, based on customer feedback and the changing role of server extensions in our overall product offerings. As we examined our options, it became clear that the best solution was to create a new and radically more powerful server story—Windows SharePoint™ Services—and eliminate the need for server extensions beginning with FrontPage 2003. Today, the optimal combination for FrontPage is to use FrontPage 2003 in combination with Windows SharePoint Services. This allows you to access the entire set of new functionality in FrontPage 2003, along with improvement to the way you did things in FrontPage 2002 and other previous versions of FrontPage. For more information about these changes, visit the FrontPage Server Configuration Options and Features page.

One provider suggests:
I think the best thing to tell your client is that you support up to FP 2002, and if they want FP 2003, they should not buy it and complain to Microsoft for alienating them.
Another offers:
FrontPage 2003 works and is 100% backward compatible with a web site based on Frontpage 2002 extensions... So if a client upgrades to the newest FrontPage when it is released they will have no problem accesing/maintaining thier existing sites site.
Of course, they will not be able to use any of the 2003 feature set. But all those features are specific to SharePoint features. And to run sharepoint v.2 you need to have a site hosted on W2k 2003.
Will there be a standalone version of FP extensions with a 2003 titile? The answer to that is no, but mostly because there's nothing new for non-sharepoint based sites.
So, the bottom line is that currently, and for the forseeable future, HostPC has NO INTENTION of offering Windows 2003 Servers, or the SharePoint services. We run an exclusively Linux based environment, that however cludgy (is that a word?) has Front Page support up to FP 2002. We will NOT be able to support FP 2003... so, stick with FP 2002 ... upgrading means we won't be able to support the new features.
