www17 has been blocked by Spamhaus Black list because ONE user sent out several thousand spam emails... blatent spam. Now, the kicker is, the customer wasn't even ON www17... www17 IP just happens to be in a range of IPs that spamhaus chose to block. So, not only are they affecting the one server IP (not even ours) - but they're affecting 64 different IP addresses - causing mail bounces, etc.

The report was submitted to Verio as soon as we were informed of the first case (I think it was Sunday 1/2) - but they've yet to clear the block on the server. I dont know if it's Verio's fault or Spamhaus's fault - but I feel totally helpless in this situation.

So... what are we going to do about it. After evaluating our options, my opinion is that it's probably best to wait it out right now. Anyone who is affected by this, we're moving to another, unaffected server, as they request it. With DNS updates happening VERY fast, it's seamless - and in this case, WE are moving the data.... this isn't YOUR _or_ OUR fault, there's no reason you should have more work to do. We can move sites pretty easily.

If your domain is registered through HostPC, it's really quick - we move, then update DNS... within a couple hours, everything's done.

I prefer to do these at night - that way they've got all night to update.

If you'd like to move, open a helpdesk ticket, and we'll get it completed as fast as possible. You may need to update your DNS if you didn't register it here, but we'll move files/mail/etc.

I'd just like to add a workaround to this issue for those clients who would prefer not to move from the www17 server.

This spamblock issue only affects the SENDING of email when you SEND using webmail or the SMTP servers of mail.yourdomain.whatever.

For the remaining time until the spamblock is removed, an alternative to moving would be to use your ISP's email (SMTP) server to send mail from your email client, instead of the email server for your domain. As a customer of your ISP, you are entitled to use their SMTP server and the SMTP server address should be available either from your ISP's web site or customer support team.

I've just received word that this block was cleared in full late last night.

Thanks for your patience during this issue.
