View Full Version : "List" command delay

When I used my FTP program to open a directory on my webpage on the old server, it would open in just a second or two. I used to be able to navigate around the folders in my webpage in a snap.

Now, in the new page, every time I try to open a new directory, I get the message "Opening ACII mode data connection for file list", and then the FTP program just sits there for 30 seconds or more just doing nothing - no data transfer through the link, nothing. I find this delay is right after the FTP program did a "List" command. It makes for navigating around the folders on the web page very slow.

Is this normal? If so, does anybody know why the new server is doing it and not the old? Is there anything I can do to improve this? Thanks.

Hmm... I haven't encountered this problem. Has anyone else? What FTP program are you using?

I'd be interested in knowing more details... maybe it's something we need to look into.

I'm using "FTP Explorer" (http://www.ftpx.com/).

I just had a thought - will "Publish a Webpage" in Frontpage 2000 work with the new servers? I could try that if it should work - that probably would eliminate much of my "list" delay problems.

If anyone is interested, I solved this issue by switching to "SmartFTP" (http://www.smartftp.com).
